Time for common sence to rule again

ImageFor those of us that grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, I wonder how different our childhood may have been if the politically correct nuts and Chicken Littles would have been in charge then, as they seem to be today.

Would we have played Army? After all, we played with toy pistols, rifles, machine guns and grenades. We fought the Japanese and the Germans and of course we won. But, what about the neighbors that watched us as we played? Were they traumatized as they watched us kids pretend to kill each other with toy guns and grenades?

How about Cowboys and Indians? Yes, the game was Cowboys and Indians, not Native Americans and the European invaders. The Indians wore paper feather headdresses that we probably made in school. They were armed with plastic tomahawks and bows with the rubber tipped arrows. A cowboy hat topped the heads of pretend Cowboys and they fought the Indians with a cap pistol, or pop gun rifle. We were shot with arrows and fell down a hill, killed with tomahawks, and our trusty six-shooter cap pistol helped us fight back. We were kids, it was all in fun. No one was really hurt. But, alas the politically correct gang of today would deem that game as insensitive to the Native Americans and too violent.

We built snow forts and had snowball fights in the winter. We rode our sleds and inner tubes down the hills over the ice and snow.  No one wore protective equipment such as helmets, or knee and elbow pads, we just had fun. When we were too cold to play outside, we played in our rooms. We put together puzzles, played board games, or drew pictures. There wasn’t a time that anyone was scared or offended if someone drew a picture of a gun, it was only a picture.

Sometimes we would pretend to quick draw using our fingers as guns and if the mood was right, we would fart to make the shooting sound. I can all most hear the Chicken Little crowd telling us that we were causing climate change and global warming playing that way.

In the 60’s and 70’s there were three TV networks. ABC, CBS, and NBC competed for the child audiences on Saturday mornings just as they competed for the adult audiences during prime time.  I think that it was ABC that carried the Bugs Bunny Show but I am not sure. What I am sure of is that one year, we kids waited all summer for the fall premier of Saturday morning cartoons to see who was going to win the foot race between a Mexican mouse named Speedy Gonzalez and The Roadrunner. Today, that cartoon is considered racist. Then, it was just a cartoon. The winner of the foot race, it was a tie.

During Prime time TV, shows such as Rat Patrol, Gun smoke, Have gun will travel, and Bonanza were big hits. Would Bonanza be a racist program today? Obviously, shows such as All in the Family, Good times, Sanford and Son, Chico and the Man, and the Jeffersons would not be allowed to be broadcast in today’s politically correct world. Today, even the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast would be banned.

It is time for the adults with common sense to take charge again. The very idea that a student can be suspended or expelled from school for eating a Pop Tart, or a piece of toast, because a brainwashed classmate imagined that it looked like a gun, is utterly ridiculous.

WE THE PEOPLE must send the Tiny Tims in Washington D.C. and their acid dropping hippy friends, home to tiptoe through the tulips. Our children deserve a normal childhood.  They must know that freedom of speech is real for all people. We must reaffirm that it is OK for our children to use their imagination. Our kids should not have to be fearful that eating a Pop Tart, playing with their pencil or pointing their finger will get them suspended or expelled from school. Only the loony left believe that a partially eaten Pop Tart had kids shuddering in their shoes. Perhaps the LSD crazed hippies of the 60’s and 70’s, who are in their 60’s and 70’s, should retire as the hallucinogenic effect of the drugs didn’t wear off. Hillary, this means you, you Pelosi, Boxer, Reid, and many more need to just retire. However, these old hippies will not retire voluntarily. No, WE THE PEOPLE will have to retire these old hippies at the ballot box. It is the only way to bring some common sense back into our government.
